To those of us who say we are part of God’s Family, what will our focus be for Jesus’ birthday?
I asked one of my grandchildren the other day what they would be giving Jesus for His special day and there was silence for awhile. Then I shared the Truth of His great sacrifice for us, that God is the consummate gift-giver, and has been since He created this Earth and everything in it! As God’s kids, we are stamped with that same spiritual DNA. He wants us to share with those He’s placed in our lives to bless and encourage them. Sometimes, He creates those “divine appointments” that introduce us to another for a moment or a period of time. Most often He wants to use one of the gifts He’s already given us to help the other. Sometimes He wants
us to relate to someone in our own family with more love and understanding. And we can always give Him the gift of more time spent with Him, studying His Word and asking Him what He’d like to do with our day… with our life.
If we say we are part of God’s family, yet have no care or concern for those around us, then maybe we need to think about our real heritage. Any of us can go to an internet site designed to tell us who our ancestors are and where our family originated. We can find out about the country, the customs, the traits. Did our family serve in politics, medicine, the armed services? Do we have traditions that date back multiple generations, especially for holidays like Christmas? This information is at our fingertips, as long as we pay the price they ask for the details.
Our Heavenly Father wrote a Book for us that gives us the details of our spiritual heritage, and two of the greatest attributes His family should have are love and giving. His family, His Kingdom, should exemplify those same traits so that others are blessed, and He gets the glory! But if we can’t even love those in our own home, how can we say that we are part of His? Jesus even paid for bad attitudes on the cross, so a change of heart, and action, would be a great gift to give Him this Christmas!
I’m putting this out there because we need to know our Heavenly Father better, and offer more and more of ourselves to Jesus who paid for everything God’s enemy ever stole from Him, and from us. He did it for you and me. So please think differently about some of your gifts this year. Make sure you ask Him about those gifts you can give that are not tied with bows, but are wrapped in His love and given from the heart.
May His blessings be those you share freely with all those you touch this Christmas season…!
